Public Artwork Commission – Charterhouse Heritage Park

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust is inviting expressions of interest from artists and artist teams to design, fabricate and install a permanent sculpture within Charterhouse Heritage Park as part of The Sherbourne Valley Project.
The commission seeks an artwork that responds to the unique character of Charterhouse, connecting themes of heritage, nature and culture. The sculpture will be located within a defined area in or around the park’s newly created wildlife pond, which forms part of the restored River Sherbourne corridor.
We are looking for a piece that:
- Enhances visitors’ experience of the landscape.
- Reflects the rich history of Charterhouse and the River Sherbourne.
- Responds sensitively to the surrounding heritage setting.
- Uses durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for a public outdoor location.
- Creates a memorable landmark that feels rooted within the park.
Artists are encouraged to develop their own creative interpretation. Proposals may focus on the area’s monastic heritage, historic water management, local wildlife, wetland ecology, or the relationship between people and nature over time.
Budget (Inclusive of VAT) - £6,000–£8,000
The budget includes artist fees, design development, materials, fabrication, transport, installation, foundations, equipment hire, insurance and contingency.

The Sherbourne Valley Project is proposing a further phase of river and wetland enhancement works within Lake View Park to be delivered in Autumn 2026. The works include the creation of five high-flow scrapes through bank reprofiling, one new seasonal wetland scrape, a permanent gravel riffle, and a butterfly bank created from excavated material.
